Dr. Youssry El Gamal, former Minister of Education, received his Bachelor Degree of Electrical Engineering from Cairo University in 1968. In 1985, he received a master's degree in Computer Science from Ain Shams University.

He took his Ph.D. in Computer Science from George Washington University, he was awarded the Richard Merwin Award as the best doctoral researcher.
